Considering memorizing this Gospel acronym and share it with someone. Below is an example of how it may be elaborated on with different analogies to explain things. Conversationally this is what it may look like:

“Hey, quick question — have you ever heard the word Gospel before?”

(They say yes or no.)

“Cool. I know a simple acronym—G.O.S.P.E.L. It explains what Christians believe in a really straightforward way. Want to hear it? It’ll only take a minute.”

G — God created us to be with Him

“So the starting point is this: God created us for a relationship with Him. Why? Honestly, I don’t fully know. It’s not like God was lonely—He doesn’t need anything. But He chose to create us and give us the blessing of life.”

O — Our sin separates us from God

“But something went wrong. The Bible calls it sin. Think about it like this—if you hurt someone you care about, there’s suddenly distance, right? Things feel off. Sin does that between us and God. And because God is holy and perfect, that separation is serious.”

S — Sin can’t be removed by good deeds

“A lot of people think, ‘Well, I’m a good person, so I should be okay.’ But imagine getting pulled over for speeding and telling the cop, ‘Yeah, but I’m a good spouse and I pay my taxes on time.’ That doesn’t erase the ticket.

“In the same way, doing good things doesn’t cancel out sin. God is a just judge. The Bible says the result of sin is death—that’s why the world is broken the way it is.”

P — Paying the price for our sin, Jesus died and rose again

“This is where Jesus comes in. Picture owing a fine so massive you could never pay it—ever, 100 Trillion dollar fine, whatever it is. Then someone else steps into the court room and pays that fine for you, even though you’re guilty, you are free to go be the fine has been paid.

“That’s what Jesus did. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead to pay a debt we could never pay ourselves. Jesus being the Son of God is OF God, fully God and fully man. If God created the entire universe, Jesus can certainly be raised from the dead.”

E — Everyone who trusts in Jesus has eternal life

“It’s not about cleaning yourself up first. Trusting Jesus means saying, ‘I know I’m a sinner, and I need help. I’m trusting Jesus to save me.’

“It’s a free gift. But like any gift, you still have to receive it. If I offered you $100 and you never took it, it wouldn’t be yours.”

L — Life with Jesus starts now and lasts forever

“And this isn’t just about going to heaven someday and avoiding hell. Life with Jesus starts now. You can actually have a real relationship with God.

“That also means trusting Him as Lord—believing He knows better than we do, even when we don’t get it. Kind of like a good parent who limits cookies because they know what happens if the kid eats the whole jar. We don’t always like it, but it’s for our good and for His glory.”

“Does that make sense?” (Clarify if needed.)

“Is there anything holding you back from trusting Jesus and following Him right now?” (Listen. Don’t rush. Respond.)

What an Atheist Magician Can Teach Christians About Sharing the Gospel

No sincere Christian would ever say out loud, “I don’t care whether people go to hell.” Yet our actions—or our lack of action—often speak far louder than our words.

There’s a well-known story involving the Las Vegas magician Penn Jillette, an outspoken atheist. After one of his shows, a Christian man approached him and offered him a Bible as a gift. Later that night, Penn posted a video expressing his frustration—not with the man who gave him the Bible, but with Christians who claim to believe in heaven and hell yet remain silent out of fear or social discomfort.

His statement was piercing:

“How much do you have to hate somebody to believe that everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?”

It’s a sobering reminder: even those who reject the gospel can recognize whether Christians truly care. They may disagree with the message, dismiss it, or even mock it. But many respect honesty and courage when they see it. They can tell when someone shares out of genuine concern.

Think about it—when people of other religions share their beliefs, we might disagree, but we can still acknowledge their sincerity. If a Muslim speaks to you about their understanding of the path to Paradise, you may believe they are mistaken, but you can at least recognize the care behind their effort. They believe they are warning you for your own good.

Now imagine your own unsaved friends, family members, coworkers, and neighbors. Picture them one day realizing that you never cared enough to talk to them about Jesus. Imagine the ache of knowing they never heard the gospel from you—not because you didn’t believe it, but because you felt awkward.

Yes, someone else may reach them. Yes, another Christian might share. But you could be the one. And while sharing the gospel may feel uncomfortable or risky, what good is our silence if their eternity is at stake? As Penn asked, what good is it to “believe everlasting life is possible and not tell them that”?

We should long to see souls saved. And if that desire has faded in us, we need to ask ourselves why.

Is our relationship with Jesus stagnant?

Are we distracted by worldly concerns?

Are we caught in sin and afraid of being a hypocrite?

Are we ashamed, fearful, or convinced this is someone else’s responsibility?

Even if we feel unprepared, we can ask God to reshape our hearts—to give us compassion, courage, and His own love for the lost. We don’t want to reach the end of our lives carrying the weight of regret.

A line from the 90s Christian song “What If I Stumble?” by DC Talk puts it plainly:

“The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today

Is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips

Then walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle.

That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.”

Why We Share Our Faith

Understanding the Eternal Purpose Behind Our Witness

When it comes to expressing our faith, it’s worth pausing to ask a simple but important question: Why?

Why do we share the Gospel? Why speak up? Why testify?

Understanding our “why” shifts our focus away from ourselves and the everyday struggles of life. It re-centers our hearts on what truly matters—what carries eternal value (Matthew 6:19–21).

Here are four biblical reasons we share our faith:

1. We Share Because God Commands Us To

The Great Commission is not a suggestion—it’s a command. But this command is never meant to feel heavy or burdensome. Sharing our faith is not an “I have to,” but an “I get to!” (Acts 1:8).

Obedience to God is an expression of love.

Think of a good earthly father. When we love and respect him, we gladly follow his instructions—not from fear, but from relationship. Whether it’s “honor your mother” or “clean your room,” obedience flows from trust and love.

In the same way, when we obey our Heavenly Father, we show our love for Him. Sharing the Gospel is both an act of obedience and an expression of affection. We tell others about Jesus because we love God—and we love people.

2. We Share Because We Have the Privilege of Telling What God Has Done

When Jesus healed a man, He told him,

“Go home and tell how much God has done for you.”

(Luke 8:39)

What an honor it is to share how God has transformed us—how He has brought us from who we once were to who we are now in Christ.

Some testimonies are dramatic. Some are gentle and quiet. Both are miracles.

Don’t feel guilty if your story seems “ordinary.” There is nothing ordinary about being rescued by Jesus. And your faithful witness—no matter how simple—may be exactly what God uses to draw someone else into salvation.

Your story matters.

Your transformation matters.

Your witness matters.

3. We Share Because Hell Is Real

This is the sobering truth:

Without Christ, people face eternal separation from God.

Scripture is clear.

The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).

Hell is a place of separation, torment, and unending sorrow (Matthew 25:41; Mark 9:48; Revelation 14:10–11).

Satan and his demons want believers to remain silent. They rejoice when we avoid conversations about eternity. They want us comfortable, distracted, and quiet.

We must ask ourselves honestly:

Are they winning in my life?

We share our faith because we know what is at stake.

4. We Share Because Heaven Is Real

If the reality of hell sobers us, the reality of heaven inspires us.

Heaven is a real place Jesus is preparing for His people (John 14:2).

A place with no pain, no tears, no death (Revelation 21:4).

A place of perfect joy, beauty, and unbroken fellowship with God (1 John 3:2).

When we share the Gospel, we’re not just rescuing people from eternal separation—we’re inviting them into eternal joy.

We are inviting them to see Jesus face-to-face.

We are inviting them into life that never ends.

In Summary

We share our faith because:

God commands us to—and it expresses our love for Him.

We have the privilege of telling the world what God has done for us.

Sharing the Gospel saves people from hell.

Sharing the Gospel invites people into the glory and joy of heaven.

When we remember these truths, we realize that our efforts are never wasted.

Every conversation matters.

Every act of obedience matters.

Every step of faith matters.

Every prayer matters.

Eternity is being shaped—one faithful moment at a time.

Celebrating Your Support and the Ongoing Mission of First Love Bible College

Happy Thanksgiving!

Though the holiday has passed, a heart of gratitude is always the posture of a believer. With that spirit, I want to thank each one of you for your faithful support of First Love Bible College and Daily Transformation. This year has truly been a blessing.

Our students are completing their semester with enthusiasm and dedication. One site is wrapping up its final quiz, and I’m awaiting a few remaining submissions from others. Still, Old Testament Survey I is officially recorded, and the students have done exceptionally well. They have journeyed from Adam and Eve to King David—studying the patriarchs, Moses, the Torah, the judges, and the first kings of Israel. In January, we will joyfully continue our exploration of God’s Word in the next portion of the Old Testament.

I hope your Thanksgiving was full of joy, love, and good food. For our family, this year was especially meaningful as we celebrated with our newborn son, arriving less than two weeks ago—a true gift and the highlight of our day!

As we approach the year’s end, I humbly ask for your continued prayers and support. Our students are learning, growing, and strengthening their churches with sound doctrine. They are discipling and being discipled. It is a wonderful time to be a Christian—indeed, every time is a wonderful time when you walk with Christ.

As the Christmas season draws near, may we all remember why we celebrate: the birth of our Savior, and the immeasurable gift He has given us.

A Thanksgiving Reflection on Psalm 136

Reflecting on God’s Goodness, Greatness, and Love in Psalm 136

As the Thanksgiving season approaches, we enter a time when our hearts naturally turn toward gratitude. We pause to consider what we are thankful for—and more importantly, who we are thankful to.

To give thanks means to show appreciation or to return kindness. And truly, no one deserves our gratitude more than our gracious, mighty, and loving God. Psalm 136 is a beautiful reminder of this. In it, the psalmist lifts his voice in thanksgiving—not only for what God has done, but also for who God is.

The psalm opens with a declaration that sets the tone for the entire chapter: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His steadfast love endures forever.” God is unchanging in His goodness, unwavering in His faithfulness, and unending in His love. This alone calls for our gratitude!

But the psalmist continues, recounting God’s “great wonders”—His creation of the heavens, the sun, the moon, and the stars. God, the Creator of the universe, is worthy of our praise.

The psalm then turns to God’s saving acts. The writer remembers how God delivered Israel from Egypt, parted the Red Sea, and guided His people through the wilderness. He remembers how God defended Israel, provided for them, and remained mindful of them even when they faltered.

Through each line, Psalm 136 shows us a God who rescues, sustains, remembers, and loves. A God who gives His people everything they need—food, protection, shelter, mercy, and grace. A God who does not forget His children.

The psalmist also makes something else clear: We are not worshiping one god among many. We are worshiping Yahweh , the God of gods and Lord of lords, the God of heaven. He is above all things, and there is none like Him.

So as we enter this season of thanksgiving, let us remember to thank God not only for His blessings, but for His character. He deserves our gratitude simply because He is God.

Let us give thanks.
Let us worship.
Let us remember His steadfast love that endures forever.

Listening to God: Building a Daily Prayer Habit That Transforms

Prayer isn’t just talking to God—it’s also learning to listen. In the noise and busyness of daily life, many of us long for peace, clarity, and connection. Sometimes we don't even recognize the need for it! That’s exactly what prayer offers. It’s not a ritual. It’s a relationship.

The Daily Transformation Journal includes four life-shaping habits, and one of the most powerful is the habit of prayerfully listening to God . When we slow down and seek His voice, our hearts begin to align with His purposes. And that’s where true transformation begins.

The Power of Prayer

Prayer has always been the lifeline of those who walk closely with God. Through prayer:

We unburden our hearts.
We receive guidance and wisdom.
We experience peace that surpasses understanding.
We draw near to the God who sees, knows, and loves us.

But prayer isn't just about speaking. It’s also about silence. Reflection. Waiting. Listening.

Start Small
Begin with just 5–10 minutes a day. You’re building a relationship, not checking a box.
Use the Journal

Practice Silence

Write it down – Journaling helps you track how God is speaking and builds faith as you look back.
Use Scripture – God’s Word is the primary way He speaks. Read it slowly, prayerfully.
Ask open-ended questions – “God, what are You teaching me?” or “Where do I need to trust You more?”

Step Into Daily Transformation

The Five Solas: Remembering the Heart of the Reformation

Why Reformation Day Still Matters for Every Protestant Believer

Hello friends,

October 31st marks Reformation Day , the anniversary of Martin Luther nailing his Ninety-five Theses to the door of Castle Church in Wittenberg. That simple act ignited the Protestant Reformation—a movement that confronted the errors of the medieval Roman Catholic Church and restored the church’s foundation to Scripture and the gospel of grace.

Out of this historic movement emerged five core convictions that continue to distinguish Protestant believers today. These are known as the Five Solas —Latin statements summarizing the essence of biblical Christianity.

The Five Solas of the Protestant Reformation

Reformation Day commemorates the moment Luther challenged the Church of Rome with biblical truth. Though many issues were debated, five major points became pillars of Protestant theology. These solas continue to define Christians across denominations such as Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, and others.

1. Sola Scriptura — Scripture Alone

Sola Scriptura affirms that the Bible is the highest and ultimate authority for the Christian. While Rome affirmed Scripture’s inspiration, they elevated the pope, church councils, and tradition to equal authority. The reformers rejected this, insisting that all authorities—church leaders, traditions, reason, and experience—must submit to the Word of God.

2. Sola Fide — Faith Alone

3. Sola Gratia — Grace Alone

4. Solus Christus — Christ Alone

These three solas stand together as a united defense of the biblical gospel. The Roman Catholic Church taught that salvation came by grace and works, mixing faith with human effort. This contradicted the clear teaching of Scripture:

“For by grace you have been saved through faith… not by works.” – Ephesians 2:8–9

The reformers proclaimed the liberating truth that we are justified by grace alone , through faith alone , in Christ alone . Christ’s finished work on the cross is sufficient. Nothing can be added to it. To require works for justification is to deny the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice—something the book of Hebrews strongly refutes. Jesus’ once-for-all offering is enough!

5. Soli Deo Gloria — To God’s Glory Alone

This final sola ties all the others together. If the Bible is our highest authority, if salvation is entirely God’s work, and if Christ alone earns our justification, then all praise belongs to God alone.
The Scriptures exist for His glory.
Salvation exists for His glory.
The church exists for His glory.

Amen—may God receive the glory due His name!

First Love Bible College – October Update

Growing in the Word. Growing in Faith. Growing Together.

Friends,

This is a wonderful time of year. Fall is upon us, and with it comes the hope of cooler weather — especially for those of us in southern Nevada. Our First Love Bible College sites are progressing well through the semester, and many are on track to finish right on schedule. A few sites have fallen behind due to storms that disrupted the network and prevented us from meeting. Please join us in praying for fewer storms and smoother online connectivity. Meeting virtually has its challenges, and this is certainly one of them.

Most of our overseas sites have now completed their study of Genesis and have begun diving into the life of Moses, the Law, the Tabernacle, and the Promised Land. This Old Testament course not only teaches Israelite history but also helps students understand the theological significance of the Law and how its principles still apply to our lives today.

We explore the meaning of the Tabernacle and how God dwelt among His chosen people — a direct connection to John 1, where Jesus “tabernacled” among us, and to Paul’s teaching that believers are now the Temple of the Holy Spirit. These truths reveal the continuity of God’s presence with His people across Scripture.

As for the Promised Land, our students have learned that Israel was commanded to possess land stretching from the Red Sea to the Euphrates River. Their failure to fully obey the Lord in this mission led to many future difficulties — something we’ll see clearly when we begin our study of Judges and the unfolding of Israel’s history.

Yet through it all, one truth stands firm: God has always been faithful to His covenants, even when humanity has not. This is good news for us today. When we falter in faithfulness, God remains merciful and ready to forgive when we repent. Praise the Lord for His enduring grace!

Help Us Make Disciples

Overcoming Fear in Sharing Your Faith

Do you ever feel fear rise up when you think about sharing your faith? You’re not alone. Many Christians quietly struggle with this—whether it’s fear of not knowing enough, fear of pushing someone away, fear of being judged, or even fear of losing a friendship, a job, or in some parts of the world, their life.

Fear is real. But it doesn’t have to stop us from obeying Jesus’ command to go and make disciples.

Thankfully, Scripture gives us simple, powerful tools to stand against fear. Here are three practices every Christian can use :

1. Pray

It may feel basic, but never underestimate the power of simply talking to the Lord about your fears—no matter how small or irrational they seem.

A true story:

Recently, while waiting for my car’s oil change, I sensed a nudge from the Holy Spirit to speak with a woman sitting across from me. I was reading a booklet on the 4 Spiritual Laws (4laws.com), and I felt prompted to ask if she would be open to reading a few pages to see if it made sense to her.

I was trembling.

Sweaty palms. Racing thoughts. A heart beating out of my chest. Everything in me whispered, “She’s not interested… What if I get kicked out? What if I look crazy?”

I whispered a prayer:

“Lord, why am I so afraid? Please take this fear away.”

But God didn’t remove the fear. Instead, He asked my heart a question:

“Do you love this person enough to have an uncomfortable conversation?”

That question broke through the fear.

I stepped out.

She read the pages.

And before leaving, she thanked me and said it gave her something to think about.

Looking back, the worst possible response would have been a polite “No, thank you.”

Everything else was either insecurity or spiritual attack.

Prayer didn’t magically erase fear—but it realigned my heart with God’s love, and that was enough.

2. Hold Onto the Truths of God’s Word

After that encounter, I realized I needed Scripture ready in my heart to fight fear. One verse changed everything for me:

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” — 1 John 4:18

I realized I didn’t need to pray for less fear.
I needed to pray for more love.
Because love —not courage—casts out fear.

Here are a few powerful “sword verses” to memorize:

Isaiah 41:10 — “Fear not, for I am with you…”
2 Timothy 1:7 — “God gave us a spirit not of fear…”
Psalm 34:4 — “He delivered me from all my fears.”
Joshua 1:9 — “Be strong and courageous…”
Philippians 4:6–7 — “Do not be anxious about anything…”
Psalm 23:4 — “I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”

A “sword verse” is a truth you can pull out when fear strikes—your spiritual weapon to combat lies and strengthen your heart.

3. Fellowship & Discipleship

You were never meant to be a lone-ranger Christian.
We grow stronger when we walk with others.

Share your testimonies.
Learn from others’ experiences.
Celebrate when someone takes a step toward Christ.
Grieve and pray together when rejection happens.

Worshiping God Together in the Ordinary Rhythms of Daily Life

This month’s article focuses on the necessity and importance of family worship. As believers, worship should not only happen in the church building — it should also flourish within our homes. Worshiping together as a family is one of the most meaningful ways we can demonstrate the value of God to our spouses, children, and households. I hope this article encourages you and gives you practical steps for cultivating worship at home.

Why Family Worship Matters

Family worship should be a regular part of every Christian household. And while families look different — some are husband and wife, others include children, and some believers live alone — everyone can participate in this practice.

Husbands and wives can meet together for prayer and Scripture.
Parents with children can gather the whole family at a set time.
Singles can have personal worship or meet with a believing friend or small group.

The form may vary, but the calling remains.

A Biblical Foundation

Scripture affirms the importance of worship within the home:

Deuteronomy 6:4–7 — Parents are commanded to diligently teach God’s Word to their children.
Joshua 24:15 — Joshua declares, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” implying his leadership in guiding his household spiritually.
1 Peter 3 — Peter encourages husbands and wives to share in prayer together.

From the Old Testament to the New, the Bible consistently points to households growing together in the knowledge and worship of God.

A Witness from Church History

Church history echoes this emphasis. Many of the great leaders of the faith — Jonathan Edwards, Charles Spurgeon, Martin Luther , and others — strongly encouraged daily, habitual family worship . Their writings highlight how God uses simple, consistent practice to shape families in Christlikeness for generations.

How to Practice Family Worship

Family worship is beautifully simple. You don’t need hours of preparation or special materials. It involves three basic steps :

1. Read

Choose a short passage of Scripture. Read it aloud and discuss it briefly. Parents can ask age-appropriate questions or invite children to ask their own.

2. Sing

Sing one hymn or worship song together. This can be a modern song, a classic hymn, or even a simple chorus.

3. Pray

Close in prayer. Anyone can pray — rotate who reads, who chooses the song, and who prays to keep participation engaging.

Consistency matters more than complexity. Even ten minutes can have lifelong impact.

A Glimpse Into Our Family Rhythm

In my own home, our family worship has been a source of joy and growth. Over the course of a year, we work through portions of the Old and New Testaments, complete two Bible studies, read a Christian book together, and go through an Advent devotional. These moments deepen our relationships, ground us in God’s Word, and set a godly example for our daughter.

Family worship is not only beneficial — it is needed in the Church today .

Moving From Casual Conversation to Meaningful Gospel Moments

Last month we talked about taking the initiative to begin spiritual conversations — bridging the gap between “Hi, how are you and the kids doing?” and confidently asking questions like, “Would you like to come to church with me next Sunday?” or “Do you believe there is an afterlife?”

But once someone opens the door for deeper conversation, many believers ask:
“What do I say next?”

Take heart — sharing your faith is not a formal presentation , but a natural conversation just like any other meaningful topic.

Do You Know Your Story — and Jesus’ Story?

Every born-again Christian should be able to answer two essential questions:

“How did you meet Jesus?”
“How can someone else meet Him too?”

If a non-believer approached you today and asked:
“How can I know Jesus?”
or
“How can I know I’m going to heaven?”
could you clearly explain the Gospel in a way that — if they believed it — they would be saved?

This is why we must remind ourselves of the Gospel daily.
We forget. We get distracted. We drift.

The Gospel isn’t “Christianity 101.”
We never graduate from it.

Here is the clearest summary of the Gospel you can preach to your own heart every day:

“Christ died for your sins, and rose from the grave.”

Everything flows from that truth.

There Is No Perfect Method — Only a Perfect Savior

There’s no flawless formula for sharing Jesus.

There are unhelpful ways (like anger or arguing), but no “magic words” that guarantee conversion.
Why? Because salvation is a heart issue , not an intellectual puzzle.

The Holy Spirit convicts.
The Holy Spirit draws.
The Holy Spirit saves.

We are simply the messengers — and what a relief that is!
But what a tragedy when we shrink back and miss the honor of being part of someone’s redemption story.

God Uses Your Personality — Not a Script

If you know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, then you hold the cure for death — the message of eternal life.

And God has uniquely shaped your personality for His mission:

Soft-spoken or loud
Introverted or outgoing
Gentle or bold

Your voice matters.
Your story matters.
Your obedience matters.

There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach — but there must be an approach.

We are all ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20).
Ambassadors don’t wait to be approached; they know their message and speak with purpose.

Strangely, we easily explain how to apply for a job, but struggle to explain how to become a child of God — our true identity.
That must change.

Learning to Listen: The Transforming Power of Prayer

Greetings!

Thank you for taking the time to read our updates. We are continually blessed by this community—men and women who are not only interested in the ministry but genuinely seeking to grow in their relationship with Jesus.

This month, I want to focus on Listening to the Lord.

Prayer is a bridge—a holy connection between us and God. It is not merely speaking; it is a rhythm of talking and listening. In the noise and busyness of daily life, many of us long for peace, clarity, and direction. Often, we don’t even realize how much we need the stillness. That’s why prayer matters. It’s not a ritual. It’s a relationship.

When we slow down enough to hear His voice, our hearts begin to align with His will. And that is where transformation begins.

Why Listening Matters in Prayer

Prayer has always been the lifeline of those who walk closely with God. Through prayer:

We unburden our hearts

We receive guidance and wisdom

We experience peace that surpasses understanding

We draw near to the God who sees, knows, and loves us

But prayer isn’t only about speaking—it’s also about silence. Reflection. Waiting. Listening.

Jesus modeled this beautifully. He regularly withdrew to quiet places—sometimes for hours—not only to talk with His Father but to hear from Him. Personally, this is one of my favorite practices: finding a quiet place, slowing my thoughts, and simply listening.

What Happens When You Listen

As you make listening prayer a daily rhythm, you’ll begin to notice:

Greater peace in decision-making

More confidence in your walk with Christ

A deeper love for people

A renewed desire to know God

A growing awareness of His presence

Prayer becomes more than a habit—it becomes a way of life.

3 Simple Ways to Grow in Listening Prayer

Write it down. Journaling helps you trace God’s voice and builds your faith as you look back.
Use Scripture. God’s Word is the foundation of how He speaks. Read slowly and prayerfully.
Ask open-ended questions.

“God, what are You teaching me today?”
“Where do I need to trust You more?”

Teaching Children the Bible: Why It Matters More Than Ever

Friends,

Here is the next installment of my theology articles. This topic could not be more timely. As the Christian world reflects on the life and legacy of Dr. James Dobson, whose ministry shaped generations of families, it feels fitting to consider why teaching children the Bible remains essential today.

The Biblical Mandate to Teach Our Children

Scripture is unmistakably clear: God has entrusted parents and the local church with the responsibility of grounding children in His Word.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he grows older, he will not abandon it.” — Proverbs 22:6

“These words… you shall repeat them diligently to your sons… when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.” — Deuteronomy 6:6–7

Psalm 78 echoes the same command—pass the truth of God to the next generation so they will not forget His works nor turn away from Him. Teaching children the Bible is not optional; it is a calling.

Why Teaching Children Scripture Matters

1. It Leads Them Toward Saving Faith

Salvation belongs to the Lord. Yet Scripture is the means through which God reveals Himself. When we teach children the Bible, we introduce them to the God who saves. The Holy Spirit uses the Word to soften hearts, shape minds, and draw young lives toward Christ.

2. It Shapes the Next Generation of Leaders

Children will one day lead our homes, churches, communities, and nations. Without a foundation in God’s truth, they will be swept away by whatever ideology the world presents. But with Scripture, they learn righteousness, wisdom, justice, and faithfulness. If they do not know the Lord or His ways, our future becomes spiritually bleak.

3. It Protects Their Minds from Cultural Lies

The world is not neutral. It loudly proclaims beliefs about identity, morality, creation, and truth—many of which directly contradict Scripture. Whether through media, education, or peer influence, children are being shaped continually.

They are told:

God did not create the world
Biblical morality is outdated
Abortion is normal
Redefining marriage is loving

But God’s Word teaches otherwise.

Children need to know the truth about God, themselves, and the world He made. Only Scripture provides that foundation. Teaching them the Bible equips them to discern right from wrong and to resist deception.

The Spiritual Battle for the Next Generation

Make no mistake: this is a spiritual war. Satan desires to steal, kill, and destroy—especially the young. If we do not teach our children the Bible, the world will gladly teach them something else. The consequences are eternal.

We cannot afford to be passive. We must be intentional, prayerful, and consistent. Every Bible story, memory verse, family devotion, and children’s class is an investment in a child’s soul—and in the future of Christ’s church.

Teaching Genesis to Samuel and Growing Together in God’s Word

School has begun!

Today at 5 AM Pacific Time, the fall semester for First Love Bible College officially began. This semester’s course is Old Testament Survey I, covering Genesis through 2 Samuel. Our students will journey through creation, the fall, the flood, the calling of Abraham, Moses and the Law, the judges, King David, and so much more. It is an exciting class—rich, foundational, and full of deep biblical truth—but it is also a challenging one due to the amount of material we will cover.

I am expecting around 100 students this semester, and it was a joy to see many familiar faces during our first class session this morning with the Arua site, which meets on Mondays. We got off to a rocky start because of the weather, but the Lord helped us through it. We were able to walk through the syllabus and begin our notes on creation.

I am truly looking forward to what God will do this semester. It is always a joy to teach the Bible, and a blessing to know that people around the world are growing in their understanding of God and His Word. I teach live so the students can ask questions in real time, which makes the class more personal and helps ensure clarity—especially since each session is translated into the local African language. Sometimes things get lost in translation, so allowing questions strengthens understanding for the students and challenges me to communicate difficult topics in simple and accessible ways. It is a blessing on both sides.

As we move into this fall semester, I ask for your prayers.

Please pray that:

Weather and technology issues will not hinder our classes.

The students will grow in wisdom, understanding, and spiritual maturity.

My family and I will have strength, health, and peace throughout the semester.

Is America Still a Nation Under God?

A Biblical Look at the Spiritual Condition of the United States

As promised in my first monthly update, I want to share short articles on topics that help us grow in our faith. These essays, originally written for my church Lake Mead Baptist, will be sent monthly (sometimes twice a month) and will cover theology, biographies, and contemporary issues from a Christian perspective.

This first article focuses on our nation, the United States of America. It aims to help us understand the spiritual climate of our time and our role as believers in Christ. For those who wish to dive deeper, I’ve included a “Further Reading” section at the end.

Is the United States a Christian Nation?

Has the United States ever truly been a Christian nation? The first question is easier to answer with modern data; the second is often debated among Christian historians. While the historical question is interesting and controversial, let us first address the present reality.

According to Pew Research , 62% of adults in the U.S. in 2023–24 identify as Christian. Gallup found in 2023 that 68% of American adults identify as Christian—33% Protestant, 22% Catholic, and 13% other Christian denominations.

However, the numbers tell only part of the story. Gallup also reports that only 45% of Americans consider religion “very important,” and church attendance and membership have declined steadily over the last 20 years.

A Closer Look at Christian Commitment

George Barna of Arizona Christian University found that:

Only 30% of churchgoing, born-again believers are “deeply committed” to practicing Christianity.

Many Christians do not believe in absolute moral truth, but instead rely on individual interpretation.

Less than half of all born-again adults believe Jesus was sinless.

Many claim abortion is morally acceptable.

Only 45% read or study the Bible in a typical week.

The 2022 State of Theology survey revealed more troubling trends:

Most evangelicals in the U.S. believe humans are born innocent (a form of Pelagianism).

Over 50% believe God accepts all religions as a way to Him.

43% believe Jesus was not God.

These numbers reflect a serious spiritual challenge—even among those who identify as Christians.

The Verdict: Is the U.S. a Nation Under God?

Given these statistics and trends, the sobering conclusion is clear: the U.S. is not a Christian nation in the sense of widespread biblical belief and practice. While America may have once reflected biblical values more broadly, today the reality is different.

Churches must lead in prayer, discipleship, and evangelism. The responsibility falls on believers to uphold the truth of Scripture, live faithfully, and help guide our nation back to God.

Prayer Requests – Uganda & United States

We have received the following prayer requests. Please take some time to lift these items in prayer:

Uganda

Godfrey: Pray for the fellowships in cities distant from Kampala, that many will be introduced to Christ and come to know Him.

Jill: An elderly woman in Magamaga was ambushed and beaten with a rock. She suffered facial injuries and was in a coma for a day. She is now regaining consciousness and healing. Please pray for her continued recovery and the financial support needed for proper medical care and supplies.

United States

Jill: Pray for David , who collapsed while working in a cow pen and fell into a roll of barbed wire. The family suspects it was a stroke. He has a serious cut and a possible brain bleed, and he is currently unresponsive. The family is awaiting test results. Please pray for his healing and full recovery.
Caroline: Caroline is traveling from Tucson, Arizona to Washington state to assist a friend with a disabled child. Please pray for her safe travel, for her friend’s challenging situation, and for the beautiful child with disabilities.
Joan: Please pray for the children attending Vacation Bible School at Lake Mead Baptist Church. There are two days remaining, and the gospel is being presented today. Pray that the children recognize their ongoing need for the Lord and that they are deeply touched by what they hear.
Joan: Pray for Addy , a 13-year-old girl in the Wednesday Daily Transformation group, and her father Tom . While details are confidential, they are in great need of prayer. Trusting that God knows their situation, please lift them up to Him.
Bobby: A young woman from work has returned after a difficult time. She recently moved out of her mother’s home after being pressured about her decision to follow Christianity. She is now staying with her aunt and grandmother, both Christians who are offering support.
She had taken sleeping pills and was admitted to a suicide center in Maryland but is doing better now.
Her daughter, who was also hospitalized, is at home with her aunt and grandmother. She currently has a feeding tube and will not be able to eat normally for about two weeks.
Please pray for this young woman, her daughter, and their entire family—for healing, peace, strength, and the comforting presence of God during this challenging time.

Exciting Leadership Update – Welcome Jamour to the Inquire Role!

I’m excited to share that Jamour will be stepping into the Inquire role within our group! This is a key position in our community that helps keep us rooted in God’s Word and growing in our personal walk with Him.

The Inquire role is centered on daily Bible reading and journaling — modeling a life of seeking God daily and encouraging others to do the same. It’s about personal examination, spiritual growth , and helping others discover the joy of meeting with God through Scripture each day.

Jamour has shown a genuine heart for this by sharing his personal journal entries daily, and I believe he will be a great encouragement to all of us in this area.

As Jamour steps into the Inquire role, I’ll be moving into the Fellowship role , which focuses on leading small group Bible studies and helping others grow as disciples of Christ through deeper fellowship and shared learning.

I’m grateful for this next step and even more grateful to be serving alongside others who truly love the Lord and are striving daily to live out the LIFE principles :

LISTEN to God through daily prayer
INQUIRE of the Lord through daily Bible reading and journaling
FELLOWSHIP with others in small Bible study groups
EXPRESS by sharing your Jesus story and sharing the Jesus story with others
